Organization and Action Plan Brainstorm

Now that you have completed a case study it is time for you to create your own organization and an action plan for your topic! Fill in the information below and post the document on you Wiki.

  1. The name of your organization
DDU Organization (Digital Divide of Uganda)

  1. Your specific topic
We want to branch out technology in Uganda, Africa.

  1. The purpose- Why are you doing this action?
We are doing this because looking at the statistics of ICT in Uganda, we realized that many people were not able to communicate with each other properly. As communication is important in the modern world with people traveling all over the globe, we believe that we should help Uganda get started. Ugandans also miss out on a lot of education and chances for jobs, and seeing as they are already in the middle of a 25 year long war, they need as much help with their economy as possible.

  1. The message- Why should people be informed about this issue?
Communication is vital in the modern travelling world as I have mentioned above. Many countries are still at the developing stage, and Uganda is one of them. If we have any shot at getting developing countries more advanced, the first step would be to get them to have more access to more advanced technology such as computers. This way they will also be able to learn more about other countries, and not just be isolated in Uganda itself.

  1. A goal- make sure this is a project that can be done and hopefully continued
We are going to try and get as many comptersas we can to Uganda.

  1. A short-term plan for achieving your goal (keep it simple and don’t be too ambitious- again make sure you CAN actually do this)
We are going to contact the World Resources Institute, negotiate a contract, and raise money with school fundraisers and donations to be sent to a bank account they can access. Under the terms of the contract, we will be notified of their progress and the money will only be used for the DDU.

  1. A long-term plan for achieving your goal
We can try and spread our organization, the same way Roots And Shoots, another famous organization did, and branch out through international schools. We may also set up donation boxes in several locations, however this is not as practical as we would have to retrieve the money fairly recently, so unless we confine it to one or two stores, we lack the capability to deal with the ramifications of creating donation boxes.

  1. Resources needed for this action plan
We need start up money, and having contacts in the World Resources Institute could help prove our legitimacy.
If the WRI doesn't respond to our contacts, we wil be forced to resort to other organizations found in our research.

  1. Division of responsibilities- who will do what?
Sarah: Fundraisers
Aaron: Assist fundraisers
Amanda: Possibly donations or also fundraising.
Tim: Contact the World Resources Institute and also fundraising.
